Calling our young seniors – between 50 and 65 years old – who are interested in forming a new reading group to read and reflect on ageing faithfully as believers. Just for this year and to recalibrate.
We will be reading Alice Fryling’s book, Aging Faithfully: The Holy Invitation of Growing Older (2021). She writes about the questions that affect us as we age as Christians, such as:
• Will ageing change who we are?
• Will ageing diminish us?
• How will ageing change our relationship with God?
• How will we respond to our ageing bodies?
• What does retirement take from us? How do we cope with that unknown space in retirement years?
This is only a small sampling of the topics in her book.
The plan is to form the group if at least 15 people (but not more than 20-25) are interested to commit to read and reflect on the book and then gather over this year to share our reflections, our learnings, our needs, our prayer concerns and encourage one another. Besides the book, some additional readings would be provided by the facilitator as the group meets.
The facilitator will be Mr Tan Kay Kheng. Last year, he led a group of 15 members on an informal basis to read the book and to reflect on ageing faithfully.
Participating in this new reading group may be a good opportunity for some of our young seniors to recalibrate as disciples in their season of ageing.
Interested members would be asked to commit to 10 meetings scheduled approximately on a monthly basis. The meetings have been planned to begin on 28 February and end on 28 November.
If you are interested to find out more about this reading group, please sign up for a preview meeting on Saturday, 7 February 2026 from 10.00am to 11.30 am at Christ Methodist Church, level 4 room 2. You will then be invited to register to join the reading group at the meeting, or as soon as you have decided to join. Registration details and book purchase (if copies are available by then) will be provided at the preview meeting. If the group is formed, registration will close when we reach the requisite number.
